The Tourist Jamie Dornan

The Tourist by brit thriller specialists Harry and Jack Williams will feature Jamie Dornan in the lead role.

A co-production between Stan, HBO Max and the BBC, six part thriller The Tourist follows one man’s search for his identity. Danielle Macdonald (“Unbelievable,” “Dumplin’”), Shalom Brune-Franklin (“Line of Duty,” “Roadkill”) and Hugo Weaving (“The Lord of The Rings,” “Patrick Melrose”) are also confirmed to join the cast ahead of filming in Australia.

Jamie Dornan stars as a British man who finds himself in the glowing red heart of the Australian outback being pursued by a vast tank truck trying to drive him off the road. An epic cat and mouse chase unfolds and the man later wakes in hospital, hurt, but somehow alive. Except he has no idea who he is. With merciless figures from his past pursuing him, The Man’s search for answers propels him through the vast and unforgiving outback.

Danielle Macdonald will star as Helen Chambers, a fledgling Probationary Constable, and Shalom Brune-Franklin is set to play Luci, a waitress who’s swept into The Man’s journey for answers. Hugo Weaving plays Agent Lachlan Rogers, one of the most highly regarded detective inspectors in Australia, leading Major Crime for the state police.

“THE TOURIST are some of the most exciting scripts I’ve ever read. I can’t wait to go to Australia with such a talented group of people,” said Jamie Dornan.

“We’re hugely excited about this show. It’s tonally breaking new ground for us and having Jamie Dornan on board is the icing on the Australian cake. Thrilled to be working with Chris Sweeney again as well as the BBC, HBO Max and Stan,” said Harry and Jack Williams, Writers and Managing Directors of Two Brothers Pictures.

“Helen is a fascinating and intriguing character. I fell in love with her on page one. I ended up reading all the episodes in one sitting because I couldn’t put them down! I’m so excited to get to be a part of this incredible project and I can’t wait to start filming alongside the amazing cast and production team,” said Danielle Macdonald.

“This story is really unique, and I’m excited to be a part of bringing it to life with this brilliant team. I’m looking forward to adding to the thrilling mystery of these scripts with the wonderfully intriguing character of Luci. It’s very exciting to be working on such a great project in Australia – it’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Shalom Brune-Franklin.

“I’m very excited to be slipping into the skin of one of the fabulously idiosyncratic characters who people the desert landscape of THE TOURIST. The scripts are wonderful. Dark and shocking, surprising and hilarious and always very human. This is a tonally uniquely project and should be an unforgettable ride and shoot for us all,” said Hugo Weaving.

“Harry and Jack’s talents are as vast as the Australian outback, and this thriller will leave viewers on the edge of their seat piecing together the puzzle,” said Jeniffer Kim, Senior Vice President, International Originals, HBO Max. “We are delighted to have Jamie, Danielle, Hugo and Shalom join the cast for this compelling addition to our slate of international original series.”

THE TOURIST is a Two Brothers Pictures (an All3Media company) production for the BBC, in association with Highview Productions, All3Media International, the South Australian Film Corporation, HBO Max, Stan and ZDF. The 6×60 drama has been written by Bafta®-nominated and Emmy® and Golden Globe®-winning producers and screenwriters Harry and Jack Williams (“Baptiste,” “The Missing, Lair”), who alongside Christopher Aird (“Baptiste,” “Liar,” “Clique”) and Andrew Benson will serve as executive producers for Two Brothers Pictures and Tommy Bulfin (“Normal People,” “Line of Duty,” “Peaky Blinders”) for the BBC. Lisa Scott (“A Sunburnt Christmas,” “The Hunting”) will produce and Chris Sweeney (“Liar,” “Back to Life”) will executive produce and direct. International sales will be handled by global partner All3Media International.

Mastermind 2020 Grand Final Will finally air Mon 15 Feb on SBS

Mastermind SBS

It’s been almost a year but the 2020 Mastermind champion will finally be crowned on Monday 15 Feb at 6.00pm on SBS. The following week sees the return of the series proper with a new host in the shape of journalist Marc Fennell.

Jennifer Byrne returns one last time as quizmaster for finals week before handing over the reins to Walkley-winning journalist, Marc Fennell, who will helm the third season from Monday 22 February. Marc, best known for The Feed (SBS) and Download This Show (ABC), is no stranger to Mastermind having jumped into the iconic quizmaster seat for a short but successful stint in 2019.

Marc Fennell said: “I think Mastermind is a genuine insight into Australia’s psyche. Every one of us has that one obsession, that one thing we know and love above all things. The best part of being the quizmaster is seeing the wild diversity of obsessions and topics that the contenders bring with them. But make no mistake, it is the toughest quiz show on Australian television. I’ve been both a fill-in host and celebrity contender on Mastermind Australia, I know first-hand how intimidating it can be. While I may be the one holding the questions, I truly marvel at the gumption of the contenders. It’s going to be intense.”

SBS Commissioning Editor, Josh Martin, said: “It’s been a long wait, but we’re thrilled to finally be presenting the 2020 Mastermind winner. Jennifer has expertly quizzed contenders since we re-launched Mastermind to Australian audiences in 2019. She leant the show her considerable intellect, warmth and authority and we thank her for the instrumental role she has played in the show’s success. We’re excited that the quizmaster baton will be passed on to SBS’s own Marc Fennell, no stranger himself to the Mastermind hosting role, who will bring his own unique style and energy to this one-of-a-kind quiz show.”

After a season of speciality subjects such as Lady Gaga, the Nimitz UFO Sighting, Sydney architecture, the Stolen Generation, Donald Glover, Aussie slang, the history of European beers, the comedies of Shakespeare and nuts (just to name a few), it is down to 16 contenders competing in the Season 2 finals.

Specialist subjects for finals week will include the Kokoda Track Campaign, The Wombat, Monty Python’s Life of Brian, The Kingkiller Chronicle, Casablanca, Ozzy Osborne, Joan of Arc and the Spike Milligan War Memoirs.

Running for nearly 50 years on the BBC in the UK, Mastermind is an addictive global phenomenon, originally inspired by creator Bill Wright’s experiences of being interrogated by the Gestapo during World War II and captured on screen using a spotlight, black chair and rapid-fire questioning.

Mastermind is produced for SBS by BBC Studios.
